Mankind has achieved remarkable engineering accomplishments that can be seen all around the world. We gathered together a diverse list of 10 such achievements, from incredible technology achievements, to incredible man-made structures, from recent history to accomplishments thousands of years old, that show that when people work together to accomplish a common goal, there really is no limit.
Here,Top 10 Â Achievements of Mankind:
10.Grand Canyon Skywalk, Arizona
The Skywalk’s foundation is strong enough to support 71 million pounds – the equivalent of 71 fully loaded 747 airplanes.
Located 1,219 meters above the Colardo River, the Grand Canyon’s Sky Walk consists of one millon pounds   of steel and 83,000 pounds of glass. It was the creation of Las Vegas businessman David jin, who approached the Hualapai tribe with the idea of glass Walkway over the Grand Canyon in 1996. The SkyWalk was assembled on site, with drilling alone taking over a year to complete. Completion date:March 28,2007.
9.Millau viaduct, France
The Millau Viadut has the Highest road bridge deck in Europe – it sits 270 meters (890 feet) above the Tarn river at its highest point.
The Millau Viaduct is the World’s tallest bridge, with a total height of 343 meters (886 ft), making it taller than the Eiffel Tower. The Viaduct, Which crosses the valley of the river Tarn, Was created to ease traffic on the route between Paris and Spain. It cost $412 million Dollars but offers good value for money, with a lifespan of 120 years.Completion Date:December 16,2004.
8.Great Pyramid of Giza,Egypt
The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for more than 3,800 years. The builders responsible for the Great Pyramid of Giza would have needed more than a few tea breaks to keep them motivated. The Pyramid consists of 2.3 millon stone blocks. The largest ones, found in nthe king’s chamber, weigh between 25 and 80 tons of granite and 500.000 tons of mortar were used.Experts have never worked out how the individual blocks were moved into place.Completion date:2504 BC.
7.Hoover Dam, Arizona and Nevada USA
Dam Workers Wore “hard hats†made by coating cloth hats with coal tar. These proved to be such an effective way to protect the workers’ heads that the contractor, six companies, ordered commercially made hard hats of the same design.
The Hoover dam rises 221 meters above the Colorado River and resulted in the creation of Lake Meed, which is the Largest man-made lake in the Western Hemisphere and feeds Las Vegas and neighboring towns. The dam is 210 meters thick at its base and 13 meters trick at its highest point. It’s a gravity dam, Which means that its foundation rely on gravity to keep the stricter from collapsing.completion date: March 1,1936
6.kansai Airport, Osaka, japan
Kansai international Airport was the first airport to be built on an artificial island.Osaka is one of japan’s most crowded cities, so when a new airport was called for, engineers came up with a novel solution – a man-made island. Construction of the island, Which measures four Kilometers (2.5 miles) by 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) took three years. Some 10,000 workers and 80 ships were used to excavate 21 million cubic meters of landfill and the island’s construction became the world’s most expensive civil engineering project, with a total cost of $20 billion. Completion date: 1994.
5.The Great Wall Of China
The Great Wall of China is 8,850 Kilometers long (5,500 miles) and was constructed over a period of 2000 years. Construction began in 475 BC, to protect china from the invading Huns.During the Ming dynasty, between 1368 and 1644 A.D. it was given a makeover, with the addition of watchtowers, battlements and cannons – some of which stand 980 meters above sea level. The motor used to bind the stones of the wall is made from rice four. Completion date:204 BC.
4.Palm Islands, Dubai UAE
The Palm islands Comprise approximately 100 million cubic meters of rock and sand.In total, 210 million cubic meters of rock, sand and limestone were reclaimed (throygh dredging) to create the islands, with 10 million cubic meters of rock used in the outer ring alone. The rocks used for both islands were transported from 16 quarries throughout the UAE and the materials used are enough to build a wall that could circle the world three times.
Completion date:September 24, 2008.
3.Panama Canal
The Panama Canal is an engineering marvel that truly shows how mankind can overcome obstacles and not just live on Earth, but make changes on it’s surface to better meet its needs. Built from 1881 till 1914 (1881 till 1904 by France, and then construction was taken over by the USA), the Panama Canal is a 77.1 km (48 mi) long artificial ship canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean through Panama, thus creating a significantly important route in international maritime trade that cuts shipping time (and cost). The canal has a lock at each of its ends that lift ships to an artificial lake called Lake Gatun, which is 26 metres (85 ft) above sea level, and used to traverse the land to the other ocean. When a ship reaches the other side, the second lock lowers it back to sea level. completion date:January 7,1914.
2.Large hadroncollider(LHC)
Still in the field of recent technology achievements, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the largest particle collider in the world, built in the years 1998-2008 by CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research). It was built by thousands of scientists and engineers from hundreds of universities and from more than 100 countries. The LHC is a 27 km (17 mi) long tunnel, 175 metres (574Â ft) deep in the ground beneath the borders of France and Switzerland. So what is the LHC used for? Simply put, it enables scientists to reproduce the state of the universe (very) shortly after the Big Bang, and test relevant theories. In 2013 an experiment in the LHC proved the existence of the Higgs boson particle.
1.International Space Station
First on our list is a space age engineering accomplishment. The ISS was launched in 1998 and has been orbiting Earth ever since. The station holds a crew of 6 astronauts and is the largest artificial object in orbit: it is 72.8 m (239 ft) long, 108.5 m (356 ft) wide and around 20 m (66 ft) in height. It is so big that it’s possible to see the ISS from earth with the naked eye. The ISS is used for research in different fields of science and lately HD cameras that send live streaming of Earth over the internet were installed.
The International Space Station cost $100 billion to build and involved 100,000 people In 15 nations.it also ranks as one of the more unusual construction sites, Located 354 Kilometers (220 miles) above Earth. The hazards faced bt those carrying out maintenance go far beyond a falling or nail gun injury – one tiny rip in a protective spacesuit means instant death.  Completion date : ongoing
